    About NCLEX®
NCLEX®-RN or National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, is a nursing examination evaluating the nursing knowledge and experience and passing it is a major requirement in order to become a Registered Nurse, qualify for RN Licensure and work as an RN in the United States of America.

NCLEX® examination is only offered in the USA mainland and territories at this time. As of January 2005, NCLEX® examination will be offered in three countries. These will include London in United Kingdom, Seoul in South Korea, and Hong Kong.

According to a NCSBN (National Council of State Board of Nursing)'s new policy, the minimum interval of days between repeating NCLEX® examination has been reduced from 90 days to 45 days. Therefore, each candidate who has applied for licensure with the participating boards of nursing will be able to take the NCLEX® eight times a year in 45-day intervals, in case of failure. Some of the boards of nursing in the United States have not participated in this new policy. These are, California, Georgia, Guam, Montana, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, and South Dakota.

Exam Length

  • Number of Questions:
    There is no fixed number of questions in an NCLEX® CAT (Computer Adaptive Test) exam. The number may vary from 75 to 265. The actual number for each case depends on when the exam software converges to an adaptive score.

  • Time:
    A maximum of 5 hours is set for each examination, including the tutorial, all breaks, and the examination itself.
