RNs who are citizens of Canada may work in the United States under provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement {NAFTA.} No advance applications are necessary. Following is the required documentation.
Current Canadian RN license
RN diploma
Offer of employment letter from hiring facility
Canadian birth or naturalization certificate
Processing fee of $50 plus $6 per person petitioning for entry
Candidate will receive an arrival/departure record card valid for one year. This card is called an I-94 and authorizes the candidate to live and work in the United States.
There is virtually no limit to the number of extensions of stay or applications for
readmission that may be filed. Canadians may file an application for a TN VISA at a U.S. Class “A” Port of Entry (border crossing), a U.S. International airport or a U.S.
pre-clearance/pre-flight Inspection station. The following states and U.S. territory offer endorsement of a Canadian license. Nurses who receive employment in these states need not complete the NCLEX exam or CGFNS (as long as the nurse is trained in English)
